Some 45 new converts in the Tutong District received a donation comprising ‘daily needs’ in a ceremony that was held at the Tutong Dakwah Department’s office, Wednesday.
The guest of honour at the event was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Md Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Abdul Rahman.
The head of the Tutong Dakwah Department, in his speech, highlighted that the donation was part of the department’s initiative to assist the newly converted in the district.
The donation was presented by the guest of honour to all the converts and consisted of rice, sugar, cooking oil and other basic items. These basic commodities are to last for a duration of one year.
The Islamic Dakwah Centre set forth a set of criteria that defines which of the new converts are eligible to receive the daily needs donations, such as, new converts who do not have a permanent job, single mothers, children or youths who are still studying and have been criticised by their parents for their move to convert to Islam.
Also present during the event was a member of LegCo , Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Haji Othman Uking, officers and staff of the Islamic Dakwah Centre as well as the Tutong Religious Office.
