THE healthy mukim programme for the Batu Apoi locality in Temburong was held yesterday at the Batu Apoi Sports Complex.

Tthe guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Health.

Also in attendance were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Health, Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Intan binti Haji Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional and Technical) and senior officers as well as staff of the ministry.

Haji Mohd Afero Eswandy bin Haji Mohammad, Acting Temburong District Officer, penghulu and village heads as well as residents also took part in the event.

The programme began with a welcoming speech from the Chairman, Orang Kaya Setia Ahmad bin Haji Lakim, Penghulu Mukim Batu. Apoi followed by an aerobics session and the launching of the Mukim BatuApoi Cycling Club. Participants also took part in a 4km walkathon event.

An exhibition was organised by the Department of Medical and Health Services respectively. Health screenings such as body weight and blood pressure among others were also held.

Other activities undertaken by the Consultative Council of Mukim Batu Apoi included a healthy cooking contest as well as an exhibition and sale of the villages’ products.

The healthy mukim programme was implemented and launched by the Ministry of Health on May 14, 2006. It aims to increase awareness amongst the public to live a healthy lifestyle whilst fostering the spirit of cooperation between the Ministry of Health and consultative councils nationwide.
