A second sharing session entitled ‘An approach to learning Mathematics for Year Four and Five’ was held recently at SR Kg Mata-Mata and focused specifically on the school’s current numeracy project under its ALP programme.
The session saw teachers briefing both students and their parents on multiplication techniques such as the lettice method and subtraction.
Parents were asked to encourage their children by participating themselves and attempt to solve some of the problems. After completing exercises, the parents gathered together to compare their answers and techniques to ensure that they had arrived at the correct answer.
The purpose of the sharing session was to inform parents of the level of mathematics that their children were currently at as well as providing enough information for parents to pro-actively get involved in helping their children in this field of study.
