A ceremony to mark His Majesty’s get-together with the people of Belait will be held in the district as part of the royal birthday celebrations.
The highlights of this celebration will play out at the Padang Bandaran Jalan Sultan at 8.30am. During the event, His Majesty and members of the royal family will observe the final round of the tug-of-war and weightlifting. The monarch is also expected to grace a prize presentation ceremony.
These highlights were yesterday delivered by Belait District Officer Haji Matussin bin Haji Tuba during a meeting with Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, who is the chairman of the national committee for His Majesty’s 64th birthday celebrations, and the highest governance committee for the birthday celebrations in the Belait District. It was held at Dewan Santap.
The meeting was meant to allow for discussions on the preparations as well as the development progress of activities lined up by the celebrations committee. Talks were also held on how to further enhance the planned events.
In his speech, the Minister of Home Affairs suggested all members of the celebrations committee, mukim and village chiefs, and members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils instil the spirit of cooperation to optimise the celebratory activities.
He further suggested all government officers, youths, NGO associations and school students be present at the get-together to enliven the royal birthday celebrations.
Meanwhile, for events held during the months of Syaaban, Rejab and Ramadhan, they will take on a more religious form. This is to ask for the blessings from Allah SWT, besides upholding His Majesty’s aspiration to make Brunei a ‘zikir nation.’
Among the events lined up for the Belait District are: remote-controlled boat race, football matches, festive stalls from July 15 – 31, Islamic-themed night presentation from July 15 – 31 at Pentas Persiaran Sungai Belait, tug-of-war matches from May 21 – 23, handicraft and cooking show and contest, basketball tournament, gate competition and neon-lighted home and building decoration, agricultural and agri-food festival, netball tournament, badminton tournament, premier forum, classical raft festival competition, ‘pentarama’ presentation, garden art competition, and landscape design.
