Managing finance, human resource, project and oneself are the four key elements if an entrepreneur were to bring about success in his/her business, stated Pg Sabtu Mostaman, I.SAT Group of Companies Chairman.
Pg Sabtu, a well-established businessman in various markets, primarily the ICT industry, shared his experience and ideas from his beginnings to the running of his businesses, during a business incubator programme to train technical and vocational graduates and Year One National Diploma students at the Business School, Gadong.

The guest speaker was invited by the school to give an inspirational talk and motivation to students taking business and finance. The school occasionally invites successful entrepreneurial figures like Pg Sabtu to give talks and share ideas.

His topics mostly covered his experience and factors that make an impact on the outcome of a business. An important contributor, he said, was his partner in life and in business, his wife who also runs her own ‘kuih’ business.

He explained that the partner, be it wife or husband, must be supportive and understand the situation. In order to get that, he said, the best thing to do is to let the partner in on the business.

In this day and age, there are no boundaries between the sexes, Pg Sabtu noted, adding that, “Women are probably more successful than male businessmen because of their emotions while men are too drawn back with their egos”.

Also covered were alternative ideas of searching for capital to start up a business, and the benefits of establishing a business based on ideas that are poles apart.

In the Sultanate, one of the contributors to business failures in the first few months is the lack of ideas. Setting up a unique business different from the others is a major advantage.

The incubator programme was initiated by the Business School to further assist students in exploring the possibilities and business opportunities as they embark in their careers.

Pg Sabtu is the Chairman of I.SAT Group of Companies, WAN.K Sdn Bhd, DGComm Solutions Sdn Bhd, Blumantel Technology and InfoCom Federation Brunei. Having an interest in engineering, he started venturing into ICT, where his businesses deal with products that include instrumentation, microwave link B VSAT satellite, system ICT integrator and offers services like vehicle inspection system.

Pg Sabtu also does consultancy in telecommunication and broadcasting, satellite/earth station/two-way radio, ICT technology, digital security/surveillance, IT service/IT training, software development, instrumentation, medical and surgical consumables, vehicle inspection equipment and educational equipment.
