James Kon May 20th, 2010 .

The get-together ceremony for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday celebration is a golden opportunity for people to express their gratitude and loyalty as well as to convey sincere thanks to His Majesty as a monarch and leader who has always cared for the people and showed concern for the progress of the nation and welfare of the people in the country.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Mohd Yusof, highlighted this in his remarks during the meeting of the National Executive Committee for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 64th Birthday celebrations in the Tutong District yesterday.

The minister, who is the chairman of the national committee further said, “The get-together ceremony reflects the warmth and love of the people for His Majesty that have been inherited by us, and is unique (among cultures) around the world.

“It also has become a Brunei cultural tradition in line with the MIB philosophy that we should preserve, because it gives a positive impact in terms of maintaining unity, prosperity and peace in the country,” the minister added.

“Our customs have also impressed the foreign community to the point that tourists are also taking the opportunity to attend the ceremony. The pure Bruneian way has to be disseminated to involve the younger generations in the country so that it will be carried on by the future generation.”

Taking into account that this year’s celebration coincides with a religious month in which Israk Mikraj and Malam Nisfu Syaaban are celebrated, the minister said the activities for the celebrations of His Majesty’s 64th birthday this year must be organised appropriately with respect to the big events on the Islamic calendar, especially in the month of Syaaban.

The minister also urged the committee members present at the meeting to always instill the spirit of teamwork as well as a high commitment in implementing and carrying out the activities that involve His Majesty’s presence in a smooth and orderly manner.

Also present at yesterday’s meeting were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awg Hj Dani bin Hj Ibrahim, the deputy chairman of the National Executive Committee for His Majesty’s 64th Birthday celebrations; Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Taha bin Hj Rauf, member of the Legislative Council; Awg Hj Mawardi bin Hj Abdullah, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs; Muhammad Lutfi bin Abdullah, Acting Permanent Secretary at the ministry; Awg Hj Mohd Suffian bin Hj Bungsu, Acting Tutong District Officer; and other committee members. The purpose of the meeting was to monitor, exchange ideas and take a closer look at the preparations and progress currently being made by the organising committees – especially in the get-together ceremony for His Majesty’s 64th Birthday – in an effort to make sure that the events will run smoothly and according to plan.

Similar meetings were also held in Belait District on May 11, in the Temburong District on May 13 and in the Brunei-Muara District on May 15.
