SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) announced that they have signed a $42 million fleet management programme (FMP) contract with national flag carrier Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) yesterday. In a statement released by SIAEC, the contract will involves the maintenance and fleet management services for RBA’s fleet of six Boeing B777-200ER aircraft which are being leased from Singapore Airlines (SIA).
“Under the FMP contract that commences in May 2010, SIAEC will provide RBA with a wide range of FMP services, including fleet technical management, spares support, component repair and overhaul, and heavy maintenance services in Bandar Seri Begawan and Singapore,” the statement said.
Robert Yang, Chief Executive Officer of RBA, said that they look forward to working with SIAEC which has a wide range of capabilities and vast experience with the 777 aircraft type.
“Their experience will ensure that RBA’s passengers will benefit from the highest quality of maintenance services,” said Yang in the press release.
Chief Executive Officer of SIAEC, William Tan added they are honoured that RBA, a highly progressive international airline, has selected their company to be the engineering service provider of its B777 fleet.
“With the extensive experience we have accumulated in handling a large fleet of B777s since 1997, we stand ready to provide RBA with our dedicated support and quality services,” Tan said.
With the new contract, SIAEC’s fleet management business covers more than 210 aircraft, with 156 aircraft operated by non-SIA airlines. This places SIAEC as one of the world’s largest fleet management service provider to airlines around the world.
RBA, two weeks ago, inked an agreement for the lease of six Boeing 777-200ER planes to the Sultanate’s flag carrier from SIA.
The contract also states that with the leasing of the new fleet, SIA will be providing engineering support via its subsidiary, SIAEC. The first aircraft is set to arrive on May 26, 2010, while the next five aircraft will arrive between June and September 2010. Each of the 777-200ER aircraft will seat 30 Business Class and 255 Economy Class passengers.
Yang said the training for the cabin crew and pilots that will be working on board the new planes has already started and some of the challenges include how fast the aircraft carrier can execute its plan of retiring the old planes and expanding RBA’s operation.- Goh De No
