In maintaining and enhancing the quality of service provided by the Ministry of Health (MoH), registered nurses and first aiders were given a basic life support course, which was organised by the National Resuscitation Centre in Ong Sum Ping and facilitated by the Ministry of Health.
According to Kamsur bin Busra, a registered nurse from Belait, the course is a good opportunity for nurses and first aiders to not only refine some of the basic life support techniques but also help refine some of the techniques needed to save lives during emergencies.
He said, “By mastering these skills, it will prepare professionals for the actions necessary in giving someone the best chance of survival with minimal long-term side effects especially during emergencies.
“The course is more advanced than the first aid course given to first aiders and is meant for registered nurses.”
The use of defibrillator, CPR for infants, as well as a refresher course on CPR for adults were part of the syllabus. Bandaging techniques and managing a bone fracture were also included in the one-day course.
