THE Royal Brunei Land Forces’ (RBLF) Pistol Team recorded a historic win at the annual Australian Army Skill at Arms Meeting (AASAM) at Puckapunyal Military Area in Victoria, Australia yesterday.

According to a press statement by the Ministry of Defence, the RBLF Pistol Team was led by Captain Md Khairol Hadizam Osman and comprised five shooters: Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Marsal Hidup, Corporal (Cpl) Khairulizam Bagol, Cpl Usmarizal Hj Usin, Lance Corporal (LCpl) Rosimandi Hj Ahim and Private Eddy Kasuma Omar.

The statement said in the Individual Match category, SSgt Marsal Hidup, Cpl Khairulizam Bagol and LCpl Rosimandi Hj Ahim respectively won the top three positions and LCpl Rosimandi Hj Ahim and Cpl Khairulizam Bagol won the first and second position.

The excellent display of shooting skills in the individual categories enabled the Brunei Pistol Team to be crowned champions in the Teams Championship, added the statement.

The combined team element focuses on marksmanship, endurance and teamwork, with an emphasis on combat-oriented shooting, where competitors will be exposed to different match conditions.

Scores attained in both the individual weapon and team events contribute to the overall winning team.

The three-week shooting competition began on May 2, with 10 countries participating, including the host country, Canada, France, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.

Brunei’s participation, apart from harnessing shooting skills, was also aimed at maintaining strong relations with the Australian Army and the participating armies in the championship, said the statement.
