The newly appointed Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohd Yasmin bin Hj Umar, who was previously the Deputy Minister of Defence, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a brief telephone conversation with the Bulletin yesterday.
“I am very grateful to His Majesty for giving me the trust to run the Ministry of Energy portfolio,” Pehin Hj Yasmin said.
Pehin Hj Yasmin served as Deputy Minister of Defence for five years, and was also appointed as a board member of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd.
The newly appointed Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office was enlisted as an officer in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in November 1981. Throughout his career at RBAF he held a range of appointments in the areas of logistics, strategy, corporate management and policy. Initially an Engineering Officer, he was first assigned as Weapons Engineering Officer with the Royal Brunei Navy. On April 1, 1988, he was appointed as the Senior Engineering Officer to head the Naval Engineering Department.
During Pehin Hj Yasmin’s tour as Director of Intelligence and Security, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam conferred him the honorary title “Pehin Datu Singamanteri”. Pehin Hj Yasmin was later conferred the Most Honourable Order of Paduka Seri Mahkota Brunei, Second Class, which carries the title “Dato Paduka”.
On September 6, 2004, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam appointed Pehin Hj Yasmin as an Official Member of the Legislative Council. On May 24, 2005, by command of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defence.
On July 15, 2006, Pehin Hj Yasmin was conferred the Most Honourable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei, First Class, which carries the title “Dato Seri Paduka”.
