THE Minister of Home Affairs has called for more transparency in the enforcement of rules and regulations by the Brunei-Muara District Office in order to get the public to comply. “When the public understand the reasons for these laws, it would be easier for them to abide by them. At the same time, the District Office should be more innovative in addressing the problem,” said Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman during his working visit to the Brunei-Muara District Office yesterday. The newly-appointed minister also underlined that government policies — for instance in the area of religion and health — should be upheld.

He specifically emphasised the importance of restaurant inspections in terms of monitoring their health standards as well as their halal certification.

“We must be able to make sure that restaurant owners have halal certification and halal label displayed,” he said.

Close collaboration between the office and grassroots leaders was also highlighted by the minister. He also called on the penghulu mukim and ketua kampungato continue with their efforts to achieve the ministry’s mission to foster unity amongst the government and its citizens.

it’s important for officers in the District Office to collaborate with the relevant agencies in the government and non-governmental organisations or individually.”

Pehin Dato Ustaz Hj Badaruddin also stressed the importance of working together to achieve the ministry’s vision and that the plans must succeed for the benefit of the public.

“I am not asking you to work for me or your deputy minister. I am asking you to work together for the benefit of the vision and mission of the ministry,” he said.

Also present was Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof.

The minister will be making similar visits to other district offices in his capacity as the newly-appointed minister.
