The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Darussalam Network will be holding its second international conference focusing on green technology.
IET officials led by Chairman Pg Mohd Zai said the “Green Technology for Sustainable Global Development” conference hopes to cultivate a culture of professionalism amongst the country’s engineers.
Officials said engineering and technology play a key role in national development but have negatively impacted the natural environment and resources.
Engineers need to be responsible in ensuring their projects are environmentally friendly, officials said.
The conference at the Rizqun International Hotel on June 21 and 22 will have expert speakers talking about green technology from different parts of the world.
Officiating the opening ceremony will be the Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, officials said.
Laina Greene, CEO and lead consultant of GET-IT Inc, a strategic marketing and business planning consultancy, will discuss green-related issues.
Associate Professor Peter Hing will speak on the Minimisation of Resource Drains for Sustainable Development on the second day.
His talk will focus on major resource drains such as the inefficient use of light sources in the home, and industrial and commercial establishments.
He will also highlight the role of materials in the development of energy-saving light sources such as compact fluorescent lamps and other high intensity discharge light sources.
Officials said 23 technical papers will be presented. Participants will be able to gain a broad overview of research and development in green technology here and outside Brunei Darussalam.
Five presentations by speakers will focus on green data centres, green vehicles, green buildings and photovoltaic technology.
