Hundreds of Malaysian nationals residing in Brunei gathered at the Malaysian High Commission yesterday to celebrate the anniversary of the official birthday of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.
The official birthday, which falls on the first Saturday of June every year, was hosted by Malaysian High Commissioner Dato Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari.
The Malaysian high commissioner in his remarks reminded all Malaysians of the need to look after their reputation as Malaysian nationals while serving the country, not to break any laws or regulations and follow closely the cultures and traditions of the host country.
“Even though many of us have lived in the country for decades, as long as we are Malaysians at heart, we should always remember our origins and our loyalty to our country,” said Ku Jaafar.
“Let us enliven the spirit of ‘One Malaysia’ by working alongside other nations regardless of race, religion and creed,” he added.
Among those that attended the function Malaysian businessmen who set up office in Brunei, professionals and families who have established roots in the Sultanate.
The high commissioner, apart from congratulating Yang Di-Pertuan Agung on the auspicious event, also expressed his deepest appreciation to those who attended the function and who had contributed to make the event a merry occasion.
