The monarchy system has existed throughout the world for centuries and still continues to exist in certain countries including Malaysia.
Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, said this at a dinner reception to celebrate Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin’s birthday. The function took place at the Malaysia High Commission’s multi-purpose hall.
Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari said, “The celebration is held annually as one of the significant occasions. Since independence, Malaysia has been practising the monarchy system. The system has become instrumental in achieving various successes by our country. Because of that, it becomes our responsibility as citizens to protect the system, in line with the national principle ‘Kesetiaan Kepada Raja Dan Negara’.”
He said, the Malaysian nationals in Brunei has helped develop the country (Brunei) socially and economically, which is most appreciated by the Brunei government as well as the Malaysian government. “We should be thankful and appreciate the Brunei government for welcoming and giving us good service.
“As the head of the Malaysian community in Brunei, I always remind all Malaysians to keep and maintain the good name and image of our country,” said the High Commissioner. “Never do things that are against the local culture and tradition or against the laws,” he added.
“Even though some of us have lived in Brunei for a very long time, we are still Malaysian citizens and shouldn’t forget our roots and loyalty to our nation. Let us light up the spirit of ’1Malaysia’, by fostering closer ties and cooperation among ourselves,” said the High Commissioner.
He said in conjunction with His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday celebration in Brunei, the High Commission of Malaysia will organise badminton and bowling championship for Agong Trophies that have been held annually. The High Commissioner also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to sponsors and donors for their contributions toward the success of the event. Currently, there are about 30,000 Malaysian citizens residing in the Sultanate.
Present at the function were Malaysian citizens as well as President of PKMS, Captain Amran Hj Aman; President of PWM, Simon Gelan; Datin Zakiah Dato Hj Alias, Chairlady of PERWAKILAN; and officers and staff of the High Commission. The highlight of the event was “1Malaysia Talents” performances by STM, PKMS, PWM and PERWAKILAN.
