In order to diversify eco-tourism hotspots in the Sultanate, Kg Putat’s Herbal Recreational Garden has been identified as a potential tourist destination.
The medicinal and herbal garden was Saturday officiated by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, Minister of Development.
The garden is a result of joint cooperation between the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRE) and Kg Putat’s MPK to commemorate the World Environment Day 2010 themed “Biological diversity: Various Species: One Planet: One Future”.
At the ceremony, Kg Putat village head stated in his welcoming remarks that the garden would be planted with more varieties of herbal plants with medicinal values.
The launch of the herbal garden, according to him, would be of beneficial to the country as a resource centre for the general public to know and learn more about certain herbal plants.
At the same time it introduces Kg Putat as an eco-tourism spot that would provide an additional income to the village residents.
The launch also coincided with the planting of several herbal plants and followed with a foundation laying ceremony at the proposed site for waste and garbage collection for the residents.
The launching was also in line with JASTRE’s objective to create more gardens and parks as well as recreational areas in the Sultanate under the theme of “Thematic Recreational Areas”.
