A fire victim finally get to own a house after waiting for eight years with support from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Fund (YSHHB) who will be building the house for her as part of the foundation’s Housing Support Scheme at Mukim Kiudang.
Zalehah Othman, 34, a mother of three children, lost her home due to a fire on August 5, 2002. The fire also took the life of her five-year-old son, her youngest child. The house originally belonged to her father and she has been staying there for more than 30 years.
Since the incident, Zalehah and her children had to stay at her uncle’s house which is located close by.
Under the Housing Support Scheme, YSHHB has contributed a total of $43,000 for the construction of her new home which will include three bedrooms, a living room and kitchen.
The foundation laying ceremony for the new house took place yesterday at the site of Zalehah’s former home.
Present at the event was Dato Paduka Hj Junaidi Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Hj Hashim, a member of YSHHB Board of Directors and Hj Mohamad Saiful Abdullah Anja, village head of Kg Kiudang.
Since its establishment in 1996, the foundation have built 137 houses.
The main aim for the housing scheme for the less fortunate is to provide houses which are comfortable and clean for families to create a peaceful family-based environment and at the same time, further develop a harmonious community in the Sultanate.
