The Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs is hosting a nationwide programme for secondary Muslim students who have never attended religious schools or who did not completed their religious education.
A total of 263 students are participating in the three-day ‘Hayya ‘Ala Solah’ (loosely translated as “let’s pray”) that aimed to get participants to appreciate Islamic teachings as their guide in life.
Taking advantage of the second term school holiday, the programme which is the second of its kind to be organised, is specifically designed to cater for students studying in Year 7 and 5. A total of 12 halaqah (discussion) centres nationwide have been set up to accommodate the 263 students and 58 teachers who are attending the programme.
In Brunei-Muara district, the programme is held at Beribi Religious School, Lumapas Religious School, PAP Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah Religious School in Kilanas, PAP Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah Religious School in Berakas, the Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Religious Arabic Secondary School and Lambak Kanan Religious School.
In Tutong district, the centres are at Ma’had Islam Brunei and Kiudang Religious School.
Meanwhile in Belait district, the three schools being used to accomodate the participants are the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Religious School, PAP Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Religious School in Seria, and Sungai Taring Religious School, Lumut Seria, and in Temburong district the programme is being held at Bokok Religious School.
During the duration of the programme the participants will have the chance to learn and refine procedures in a number of rituals required in Islam such as in cleansing the body (mandi wajib), perfecting the procedure in performing the ablution (wudhu), performing the solat (daily prayers) as well as in reciting Surah Al-Fatihah and other short Quranic verses (Ayat-ayat lazim).
