An officer from the Anti-Corruption Bureau delivered a talk on self-integrity to a group of civil servants in the Ministry of Finance Wednesday morning and made it clear that accepting certain gifts or offers from clientele might be considered as bribery.
“This includes the act of giving and receiving bribes, in particular, hampers during the festive season. In the case of gifts from the private to the public sector, employees who have official dealings with them will be held responsible,” the Head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Special Investigations, Pengiran Emran bin Pg Hj Metarsad told the 15 civil servants.

He urged them to file a report without delay to the Bureau if they come across any offers or bribes, as they may also be held responsible if found that they had prior knowledge to it taking place without taking any action and may be prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act Chapter 131 Chapter 16.

The Head of Special Investigations also revealed that a total of 74 cases were approved for continued investigation into corruption in the past year.

He also took the time to remind the government officials to never accept offers or gifts in any form or grants, in particular from clientele who have official relations with the government, may it be a close friend or an immediate family member.
