Tutong – It has been a nightmare for a family of five in Kg Luagan Duduk in Tutong every time there is a downpour as they have to clean up the mess left by the flash floods.
Their house located near the village community hall was again under water during a downpour from 7pm on Monday till dawn on Tuesday. The drain in front of their house overflowed with rainwater again.
It was the third time that the problem has occurred in recent months. However, they described Monday’s flooding as the worst.
The house owner, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said although the drain was widened a few days ago, the water still entered his house as the drain is “still narrow at the far end”.
The matter has been reported to the village chief who has taken note of the problem.
“When our house was flooded on Monday night, we called and sought help from several relevant agencies but to no avail,” he claimed.
They had no choice but to buy their own water pump which costs $185 to remove the floodwater, which reached a foot high.
The floodwater damaged the family’s wardrobe, bed, wall and chairs.
In June this year, they faced a similar problem.
When the Bulletin visited the home at 9pm on Tuesday, the family was still draining out the floodwater.
Luckily their house is double-storey and they can sleep on the upper floor.
