THE Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) is building its own Sports Complex which is expected to be completed in July next year.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed complex was held yesterday at the RBAirF base in Rimba.
The ceremony which was officiated by the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a special doa followed by azan by a personnel from the RBAF Religious Department (Jama’at) to seek blessings before the construction begins.
The project that costs $7.4 million has been awarded to Contractor Dewi Puspita Sdn Bhd. Under the contract, the building should be completed in 16 months.
While the consultant appointed for the project was Architect Idris as the Lead Consultant/Architect, KRKamarulzaman & Associates as the Civil& Structural Engineer, ZRJ Zakaria & Associates Sdn Bhd as the M&E Consultant and MRBC Partnership as the Quantity Surveyors.
The lead consultant, Arkitek Idris chief executive officer and principle architect, Dato Paduka Hj Idris Hj Abas briefed the RBAF commander on the project. It was envisaged that the proposed project was to build a modern and contemporary sports facility with an innovative approach to design.
This complex is to house a wide array of sports including an IAAF (International Association Athletic Federations) accredited Athletic Running track with eight lanes, FIFA standard Football field illuminated with High Mast Lighting, a grand stand for 400 pax, six lane 50m swimming pool and diving platform, Multipurpose Sports Hall, futsal courts and provision for future hockey field and Future and outdoor futsal courts.
Also present were the acting Deputy Permanent Secretary II of the Ministry of Defence, Pg Hj Menudin Pg Lela Wijaya Pg Hj Yussof, the (RBAirF Commander Colonel (U) Hj Jofri Hj Abdullah, RBAirF senior officers and staff the Directorate of Development and Works Services.
