By the command of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Holy Month of Ramadhan will begin tomorrow as the new moon could not be sighted yesterday.
The announcement was made shortly after Maghrib prayers by Dato Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Metussin Hj Baki of the Syariah High Court on national radio and television last night.
Bukit Shahbandar, Jerudong, Bukit Ambok in Tutong, Padang Tembak Bukit Agok Tutong and Bukit Lumut in Belait were the four assigned locations for the sighting of the moon.
Muslims in the country will begin their tarawih, witir prayers and tadarus at mosques nationwide after the Isya’ prayers.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday organised a religious event while the moon-sighting took place.
Attending the event at the ministry’s headquarters was Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj.Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman.
Accompanying him were Head Syar’ie Judge Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Yahya Hj Ibrahim, Deputy Minister Pg Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar and other senior officials.
The religious event began with a recital of the Quran by national qari (male Quran reader) Ak Mohd Adibul Amin Pg Hj Marzuki, who recently secured the fifth spot in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran Competition in Malaysia.
Maghrib prayers were led by Pg Hj Haslin Pg Hj Ali, the acting senior officer from Jame’ Asr’ Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.
